Overview

The Vieux Moulins de la Tine stand in Troistorrents, in the Val d’Illiez, on the banks of the Tine. They are already mentioned in the archives in 1401, a sign of their economic importance to the village over the centuries.

Shut down in the mid-20th century, the site was taken over by the Fondation des Vieux Moulins de la Tine, founded in 1986. It came back into operation in 2006 thanks to a group of volunteers and opened to the public as the “Vimoti” museum.

What to see and do

The Vimoti museum gives access to several restored technical buildings. The grain mills, the fulling mill used to process cloth, the press and the forge are all in working order. Each installation retains its original mechanism, driven by the hydraulic power of the Tine.

The machines run in front of visitors, offering a hands-on look at traditional crafts of the past : grinding grain, fulling cloth, pressing and metalworking.

The tour also includes the miller’s chalet, reconstructed to show the living conditions of craftsmen of the time. It rounds off the workshops by revealing the domestic side of the trade.
