Overview
VerticAlp Emosson is a set of three rail installations in the Trient Valley, on the French-Swiss border, within the Espace Mont Blanc. From Le Châtelard-Village, a funicular, a panoramic train and a mini-funicular follow one another up to the Emosson site, at 1,965 m above sea level.
The terminus gives access to the Emosson dam, one of the largest in Switzerland, which holds back an emerald-hued artificial lake. This hydroelectric project bears witness to 20th-century Alpine engineering.

What to see and do
The funicular begins the ascent from Le Châtelard-Village through the forest, gradually revealing the Trient Valley. The panoramic train then runs along the mountainside, with plunging views over the gorges and peaks. The mini-funicular covers the final stretch to the Emosson site.
At the top, the dam and its lake are the highlight of the visit. Information areas explain the history and operation of the facility, as well as the technical challenges of producing hydroelectric power in the mountains. On clear days, the view extends to the Mont Blanc massif.
Several walking trails start from the terminus. They follow the lakeshore and let you observe high-altitude Alpine flora, between calm waters and rugged peaks.
