Overview
The Triège Gorges are located in Valais, in the Trient Valley, just before the village of Le Trétien. The Triège is a tributary of the Trient. It rises at the northern foot of the Col de Barberine, first flows through the Val d’Émaney, then carves out these gorges before joining the Trient.
The gorge trail was built as early as 1870, reflecting the long-standing importance of this passage. It has since been renovated. Over time, the torrent has sculpted the rock walls that the route lets you see up close.

What to see and do
The trail crosses the torrent via footbridges and three bridges that trace the history of transport routes in the valley. Each bridge illustrates a different era of regional development, from the first stone structures to steel and concrete constructions. Set at different levels, they offer varied views of the rock walls and the torrent flowing down towards the Trient.
The route then descends through the forest and passes through the village of Le Trétien, with its traditional Valais chalets and cobbled lanes. Along the way, you will also discover the hydroelectric installations that dot the Trient Valley and harness the power of water.
Inside the gorges, the humidity and coolness create a microclimate where mosses and ferns carpet the rock walls.
