Main highlights
- 120 m footbridge suspended above the Trient river, at the bottom of the gorge

- 2.7 km loop from Tête-Noire, through pastures, forest and four wooden ladders
Overview
The Gorges Mystérieuses are a deep ravine carved by the Trient river, opposite the village of Finhaut. Along this ravine, wooden walkways and stairways fixed to the rock provide access to the Nymphs’ waterfall. They are reached on a hike from Tête-Noire.
The river cut these gorges into the Mont Blanc massif to a depth of 200 m. The site draws hikers, climbers and botanists. Its name comes from the unique atmosphere between these rock walls, where water and stone shape the landscape.

What to see and do
The trail crosses former pastures and then forest, before descending via four wooden ladders and stone steps to the gallery. The contrast between sunny areas and shaded depths creates microclimates that support a varied flora and fauna.
At the bottom of the gorge, a 120 m wooden footbridge suspended above the river offers plunging views of the Trient’s waters and the rock walls sculpted by erosion. A series of stairways attached to the rock then leads to the Grotte aux Nymphes.
This small natural cave receives a multi-tiered waterfall fed by water flowing down from the Mont Blanc massif. The return is via a winding path back to the car park, or by continuing towards Trouléro.
