Overview
Founded in 1987, Juraparc covers more than 10 hectares of forest and pasture near the Col du Mont d’Orzeires. The park is built around respect for the animals and preserving their natural behaviour, in spaces suited to their needs.
It features large European mammals : the brown bear, found in the Swiss mountains until the 19th century; the European bison, which came close to extinction in the early 20th century; the wolf; and the Eurasian lynx. The park takes part in the European bison conservation programme.

What to see and do
The brown bear enclosure includes forest, rocks and a pond. A raised walkway lets you watch them safely. In spring you can see them waking from hibernation, and in summer taking a dip.
The European bison herd, one of the largest in Switzerland, grazes freely. These animals can weigh up to a tonne. A trail runs alongside their territory and lets you see them fairly close up. The wolf area alternates between wooded and open sections : you can spot the pack on the move or resting, and sometimes their social interactions.
Information panels explain the wolf’s ecological role and its history with humans. The lynx have a space suited to their elusive nature : they are harder to spot than the other animals.
