Oberhofen Castle

Oberhofen Castle, a Swiss heritage site, originated as Balm Castle during the High Middle Ages. Its moated structure, dating to the 13th century, overlooks Lake Thun. After various owners, Bern acquired it in 1386, converting it into an administrative center. Over centuries, patrician families held it until the Pourtàles family's renovation in 1849-52. Today, it hosts the Historical Museum of Bern. The castle's central keep, chapel, and Baroque-style additions showcase its evolution.
